THEORY CLASSES

common questions
01

Should I choose the online or in-person classes?

Choosing between online or in-class driving theory classes depends primarily on your learning style, schedule flexibility and need for structure. Both formats cover the same essential material, but in-class provides direct interaction while online offers convenience.

02

What are the benefits of in-person classes?

In-person classes are best for individuals who benefit from direct instruction, social interaction and a set schedule. In-person classes provide accountability, real-time, face-to-face feedback from instructors, a structured environment and easier interaction with peers.

03

What are the benefits of online classes?

Online classes are best for self-motivated learners with busy, unpredictable schedules who enjoy flexibility to study anywhere at their own pace and prefer instant access to study materials.

04

How many questions are on the written test?

IN-VEHICLE LESSONS

common questions
01

What training do instructors receive?

Driving instructors undergo comprehensive training combining in-class, in-vehicle and instructional techniques to teach safe driving. Key training components include advanced driving skills, learning principles and risk management.

02

What certifications do instructors have?

All of our driving instructors are licensed by the Alberta Government and are required to pass licensing exams, including tests on theoretical knowledge, advanced driving and an evaluation of their ability to teach. In addition, driving instructors must have a clean driving record and a valid, long-term Class 5 driver's license.

03

Can I use my own car for the training?

No. The Alberta Government has strict rules requiring that we use our Skills Driving School vehicles that are properly equipped. Skills provides dual-controlled vehicles for our driving courses that have a valid license plate and registration and are properly insured and maintained to meet the Government’s strictest regulations.

04

How long is each driving lesson?

Driving lessons are typically 2.5 hours long to allow enough time for thorough instruction on complex skills, including residential driving, highway merging and parking, without constantly stopping. Longer sessions help build confidence, cover diverse road conditions, and ensure the driver becomes proficient in safety, techniques and navigation.

05

Can I reschedule my lesson?

Yes. You can reschedule your lesson with a minimum 24 hours notice. We normally book 3 months in advance so please try to keep your lesson schedule if possible.

06

What grade do I need to pass the in-vehicle training?

A grade of 75% or greater is required to pass to the in-vehicle portion of the driving course. All requirements for this test will be covered during your in-vehicle training.

07

Can my mom sit in the back seat?

No. We find that students learn best when they receive private, one-on-one instruction from a licensed driving instructor.
